Coaching is not teaching, training nor managing performance. It is neither therapy nor friendship. At its most fundamental level, coaching is a kind of relationship that creates a safe and open space for lasting breakthroughs in performance.

Coaching is focused on an identified area of performance and a practice field where a client will experiment and learn. The client realizes that their ability to impact their own performance is insufficient to what they are committed to. Coaching offers a compelling access to shifts in leadership that they could not create on their own. In the space of the Coaching relationship, old constraints begin to waiver and the certainty of past limitations start to lose their grip. It is a space of learning by doing, of trial and error, and of discovery and course correction.
